POW @ ISPO MUNICH 2020

POW got a great response at the ISPO Munich outdoor show as we launched Protect Our Winters Europe and our European Strategy Plan and hosted a POW Climate Leadership breakfast. More than 200 people turned out as our founder Jeremy Jones called for the outdoor industry to raise its voice and be climate champions.

At the POW Climate Leadership breakfast, Jeremy was joined by Alex Weller of Patagonia Europe, Chris Patsch of Burton Europe and Benjamin Enault for B Lab Europe to discuss how outdoor businesses can be a force for climate good. With Patagonia aiming for net zero before 2025 and Burton now a B Corp, it was widely agreed that putting one’s own house in order is rapidly becoming a minimum threshold. POW Europe is here to help to give a voice to those parts of the European outdoor industry wanting to speak up and engage their communities on climate. Find out more.

As you can see from our strategy plan, one of our main campaign targets for this year is to add our community’s voice to ending the unfair tax exemption on aviation fuel in Europe, which is holding back the development and use of low carbon transport alternatives such as rail. In view of the current crisis and its impact on airlines, we are reviewing how best to tackle this important policy issue in the weeks and months to come, but we are no less determined and convinced that we should all be able to access our favourite outdoor places without contributing to their destruction.
