HOST YOUR OWN GLACIER SCREENING

As part of the POW International Year of Glacier Preservation 2025 campaign, we are proud to introduce “The Voice of the Glaciers”. Born from a simple observation: many glaciers—like those in the Pyrenees—are already doomed. This is due to global warming, which is affecting mountains even more severely than other ecosystems, occurring twice as quickly. If we continue on this trajectory, by 2100, almost all of the current glaciers in the Alps could disappear.

But it’s not over.

The United Nations has designated 2025 as the International Year for Glacier Preservation. While this may not automatically translate into immediate large-scale national or international commitments, it does mark an important opportunity—one we must strive to make the most of.

The goal is simple: we must talk about the issue and raise the voice of glaciers as high as possible. By organising screenings in our local areas and disseminating a call to action in our countries, we can collectively bring the issue of preserving glaciers and post-glacial ecosystems to the table. We can raise awareness about the fragility of glaciers and mountains in the face of climate change, which sometimes seem so distant, yet whose role is so close to us.

On this page is everything you need to organise a movie screening and join the The Voice of the Glaciers movement. Are you located in France? Please visit La Voix Des Glaciers for more details.

Help us to give glaciers a voice!

To get you started, we’ll provide our latest film, DOWNSTREAM. This documentary follows hydro-ecologist Dr. Juliette Becquet as she investigates the devastating impacts of melting glaciers on three major glacier-fed rivers: the Rhône, Columbia, and Waitaki. Watch the trailer to get a feel for the context, story, and stunning visuals.

More info about DOWNSTREAM can be found here.

Ready to host a screening in your community?

From choosing a venue to organising a panel discussion. Download the Outreach Pack below.

Can I include other movies as part of the event?

Absolutely! Screening DOWNSTREAM is essential; anything else should be complementary. You can choose the movie that best fits your event. DOWNSTREAM has been selected highlight the urgency of glacier preservation and the power of collective action.

Can I organise a paid screening?

The Voice of the Glaciers is a free initiative made available for everyone to use. POW does not charge for screening the films as part of a free event. However, depending on the venue, you may choose to organise a ticketed screening for The Voice of the Glaciers. The condition is that you must inform POW Europe and discuss the details with us beforehand.

Do I need guest speakers for my screening? Where can I find them?

It’s not mandatory to have guest speakers, and you don’t need specialists to host a discussion after the screening. However, if you would like to have speakers for a panel discussion, we recommend contacting nearby universities or associations. Many environmental experts are available across Europe and can participate in discussions, which is the main goal of The Voice of the Glaciers. If you’re unsure who to invite or need help inviting specific individuals, feel free to contact us at takeaction@protectourwinters.eu.

I want to organise a screening, but don’t want to do it alone. How can I find people to help?

The POW community has local volunteer groups across various regions of Europe. You can contact us at takeaction@protectourwinters.eu, and depending on your location, we can connect you with local volunteers or share your call for help on our social media.

Can I organise a panel discussion after the film?

Following these screenings, we've hosted panel discussions featuring athletes, scientists, business leaders, and policymakers.
