GLACIER PRESERVATION
Covering around 10% of the Earth’s surface, glaciers store 75% of the world’s freshwater and are essential to global water resources.
Mountain glaciers cover just 0.5% of land at lower latitudes but their influence travels far. Traveling mountains to oceans, glaciers feed rivers that nourish ecosystems, transport nutrients, provide drinking water, support agriculture, allow us to do many of the outdoor activities that we love and so much more.
We're part of the collective fundraiser, 1% for the Glaciers, that supports six NGOs continued work on glacier preservation: Protect Our Winters, France Nature Environment, Marge Sauvage, L’École des Pôles, Mountain Wilderness and Mountain Riders.
THE UNITED NATIONS' INTERNATIONAL YEAR OF GLACIER PRESERVATION
The United Nations' International Year of Glacier Preservation took place during 2025. Throughout the year, POW launched a global campaign that amplified the importance of glaciers. We mobilized communities worldwide to take action.
Even though International Year of Glacier Preservation ended, we're continuing to raise our voices to protect glaciers in 2026 and beyond.
